DURANT – On May 17, the Durant Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 113 Auxiliary will hold a memorial service to honor 14 fallen officers from Bryan County, 1895 to the present.

The event will take place at Market Square in Durant and will begin at 5:30 p.m.
All local agencies and the public are invited to attend to show their support and appreciation.
Honored attendees will place a rose on the memorial wreath for those killed in the line of duty, and a final rose will be placed representing those still serving and putting their lives on the line.
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.
In 2017, 128 officers were killed in the line of duty. Year to date in 2018, 53 officers have made the ultimate sacrifice. Since the first known line-of-duty death in 1791, more than 21,000 U.S. law enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice.
