Dr. Leonard C. Spellmann D.C.

Dr. Leonard C. Spellmann D.C., of Durant, Okla. passed from this life on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022 at the age of 85. He was born on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1936 in Smiley, Texas to Audley Christian and Ethel Mae (Stephens) Spellmann.

He was a longtime resident of Bryan County. He enjoyed riding his tractor and working on his property. He was in practice for 57 years and retired from Durant Chiropractic Clinic which he owned and operated. He was gifted in his work and people came from miles away to visit his practice. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1957 and was stationed in Europe during the Korean Conflict. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Audley Christian and Ethel Mae (Stephens) Spellmann; mother of his children, Karen Housley Armstrong; son, Christian Spellmann; sisters, Doris Roper and Wanda Hendricks.

Survivors include his daughters, Jenniffer Hendricks of Durant, Okla., Kelly Clark and husband James G. of Mead, Okla.; son, Len Spellmann of Colbert, Okla.; grandson, Brett Spellmann of Utica, Okla.; granddaughters, Elizabeth Sullivan and husband Hal of Durant, Okla., Jacqueline Washer and husband Matt of Colbert, Okla., Malorie Clark of Mead, Okla.; great-granddaughters, Nora Sullivan of Durant, Okla., Emilia Sullivan of Durant, Okla.; special niece, Brandi Parker, beloved cousins and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A family visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022 at Gordon Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022 at the Spellmann Family Cemetery in Dewitt County, Texas.

    Dr. Spellman treated my mom beginning in the 70’s, I think. I was a baby. He was always so fun and we cut up and he was a wonderful adjuster. I think we called him Dr. Thump for a long time because of the thing he had that thumped when he adjusted you. I know he will be greatly missed. You fought a good fight Doc.
