Dorothy S. Johnson, a resident of Durant, Okla., and beloved child of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ arrived in Heaven on Oct. 4, 2021, at the age of 80. She was born in Pleasant Hill, Okla. on June 11, 1941, to Richard Paul Braudrick and Mabel Ann (Nelson) Braudrick. Dorothy married her sweetheart Elmer Harlan (EH) Johnson on August 22, 1959, in Grayson County, Texas.
Dorothy was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She graduated from Southeastern with a B. S. in Elementary Education and English in 1972, then she earned master’s degree in Special Education in 1974, and she retired as a Learning Disabilities Teacher.
Dorothy dedicated her life to special education for many years, advocating for those with special needs and applying for grants at various school districts. She was instrumental in bringing the Special Olympics to Bryan County along with Molly Mills. Dorothy was honored many times over the years for her tireless dedication to serving others. She enjoyed many hobbies in her lifetime, gardening, quilting, and supporting the Dallas Cowboys, the Mavericks, the Rangers, and the OU Sooners.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her beloved children: David Johnson and wife Susan of Durant, Okla., Monica Hutcherson of Durant, Okla., Sharon Golden of Durant, Okla., Threasa Maples and husband Adam of El Paso, Texas, and Ella Jean Thomas of Bend, Ore.; grandchildren: Richard Paul Makke and wife Stephanie of Durant, Okla., Lacey Makke of Ardmore, Okla., Shannon Hutcherson of Durant, Okla., Amanda Hutcherson of Pueblo, Colo., Aaron Johnson of Durant, Okla., Teddy Golden of Durant, Okla., Rebecca Edwards of Bells, Texas, Judy Golden of Durant, Okla., and Micah Maples of El Paso, Texas; sisters, Mary Lou Sherrod of Durant, Okla. and Imogene Williamson of Cartwright, Okla., and also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mable Braudrick; husband, Elmer (EH) Johnson; and siblings, Madeline, Richard, Pauline, Bill, Don, Luke, and David.
Family hour will be from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Okla.
Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Darel Bunch officiating. Her earthly resting place will be at the Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo, Okla. with Aaron Johnson, Teddy Golden, Shannon Hutcherson, Adam Maples, Wesley Sherrod, and Kenneth Edwards as her pallbearers.
Services are under the direction of Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Okla.
