Don Lindon Herron, 92, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023. He was born August 25, 1930 to King David and Adde Belle (Mayhew) Herron.
He was a 1949 graduate of Durant High School and attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He married the love of his life Sherry Edwards on October 2, 1951. Don was blessed with four children during his marriage. He was a very involved parent. He coached Little League Baseball five years and later became the Baseball Commissioner for Durant Little League. He loved taking the family yearly to see his favorite player Johnny Bench play in Houston.
Don loved the lake and took his family many nights after work to swim, ski and eat hot dogs. Don was employed by his dad and worked with his dad and brother Darrell at Herrons Floor Covering from 1949 until 1964, when he and Darrell took over the family business. During this time, Don served his country as a member of the Oklahoma National Guard for nine years. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Durant for many years and served as the Noble Grand at one point.
Don loved Calvary Baptist Church and was a member for more than 75 years. He served in many ways. He was Sunday School Superintendent, Royal Ambassador teacher, Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir, and was a deacon. When the family grew, he continued to be involved in all his grandchildren’s lives. He loved them dearly and attended all of their activities and taught them by example to be kind, considerate, courteous, and to love Jesus.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Edwards Herron; three sons and daughters-in-law: Mike and Suzie Herron, David and Marcie Herron, and Tracy and Debbie Herron; grandchildren: Taylor Herron, Leigha Herron Myers, Kayla Herron Mann, Trevor Herron, Cole Herron, Tori Howard, Tamra Stone, Chad Bullard, Blake Bullard, Emma Smith, and Melanie Henry; 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, King David and Adde Belle (Mayhew) Herron; brothers, HD Herron and wife Nora, and Darrell Herron and wife Doris; sister, Mary Ann Crowley and husband Sam; daughter, Terry Herron; granddaughter, Haley Herron, and great-nephew, David Robinson.
A funeral service in his honor was held on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church in Durant with Brother Darel Bunch officiating. Don was laid to rest at Highland Cemetery following his funeral service.
Those serving as pallbearers: Taylor Herron, Trevor Herron, Cole Herron, Caiden Pepperman, Tod Weder, and Mike Kennedy.
