Don Deroyce Dike went to his heavenly home on December 23, 2021, at the age of 79. He was born on July 24, 1942. Don grew up in Fort Worth, Texas where he graduated from North Side High School in 1960. He attended North Texas University in Denton, Texas where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in business in 1964.
At the early age of 15, Don pursued his rodeo career. First, he rode bulls and then began riding bareback. He worked at several grocery stores full time to support his riding all over the US on the weekends. He excelled and qualified for the National Finals Rodeo three different years in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Later, Don worked pouring concrete to build missile silos in Arkansas. He also began driving 18-wheelers alongside his dad.
During his time of making shape charges for oil field drillers at Harrison Jet Guns, he met the love of his life – Charlotte. Eventually, they would start their own business in Wise County. After making the decision to sell their business, they settled in their forever home in Colbert, Okla.
Don’s grandfather was full-blood Potawatomi. Don was very proud of his native heritage and had wonderful memories of visiting his grandparents in Wanette, a small town near Shawnee, Okla.
Don was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents; his father, Rollene; his mother, Thelma Brothers and sister, Linda Weurdig.
He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte; along with his bonus daughter, Sharon Corbett and husband Shane; his treasured grandchildren Morgan Graham, Logan Corbett and Presley Corbett, and great-granddaughters, Hadleigh and Tatum.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m.. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022 at the Murray Hill Freewill Baptist Church with Chance Sinor and Shane Corbett speaking.
