Dena Kaye Kitchens, a vibrant soul and a beacon of intelligence, creativity, and spirit, was born on October 24, 1960, in Durant to Harold Kitchens of Durant, and Betty Joines Stuteville of Durant. She embarked on her final journey from this world on October 20, 2023, at the age of 62.
A lady of many interests, Dena was an enthusiastic traveler who found joy in the discovery of new places and cultures. She had a particular fondness for cruises, finding tranquility in the vastness of the sea. Her spirit was free and boundless as the ocean itself. Dena found pleasure at home in her new pool she was so proud of, which she called her family pool she built for all of us. She dreamed of living by the water, and she finally got her dream.
Dena was a shining example of resilience and determination. She was a luminary in her professional field, serving as the Senior Director for Provista for 23 years. Her work was not just a job, but a passion, and she poured her heart and soul into every project she undertook. Her colleagues say it best, “Dena has been a cherished Provista/Vizient family member since September 10, 2001; her journey began as the Senior Portfolio Executive of Non-Acute Distribution. She climbed the corporate ladder through unwavering dedication and talent and received accolades such as the 2012 Innovator, 2018 Resourceful Ambassador, and 2021 Collaborator of the Year. Her innovation, resourcefulness, and collaborative spirit inspired her colleagues and set a high standard. Beyond her official roles, Dena served as a mentor, shaping leaders in the organization, and giving her all, maintaining a consistent 110% commitment. In her final role as Senior Director of Program Services at Provista/Vizient, Dena continued to excel, exhibiting an extraordinary work ethic. Her impact extended beyond her professional accomplishments; she was known for her warm and caring nature, endearing herself to colleagues and friends. The relationships she formed will forever be cherished, and her memory will remain an enduring source of inspiration. Dena’s presence will be profoundly missed, but she will forever reside in our hearts as a dear friend, mentor, and dedicated professional.”
Dena is survived by a loving family, who will forever cherish her memory: her mother, Betty Stuteville of Durant, Okla., along with her sibling, Karen Ross Brown of Durant, Okla. and Betty’s extended family and children of Claude are Eric Stuteville and wife Ashley of Durant, Okla.; Leah Anne Brooks and husband Alan of Durant, Okla.; Jim Stuteville and wife Mary of Catonsville, Md.; her nephews, John Cortney Ross and husband Simon of Martha’s Vineyard, and Dallas Brown of San Antonio, Texas, and her niece, Brooke Livingston and husband Corey of San Antonio, Texas, will remember their aunt’s vivacious spirit and zest for life; her aunt, Ella Jean Mitchell of Durant, and uncle Dale Joines and wife Sharon of Caddo, Okla., will also hold her memory dear. She is also survived by her cousins Michial Joines and Nene, Randall Joines and wife Marty, Rhonda Richards and husband Ray, Patti Latta, Sue Carol, and Pamela, and her best friend Susan Gleason Tune of Frisco, Texas, as well as other family and friends who will remember her fondly.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Kitchens, and her second father, Dr. Claude Stuteville. Their love and guidance undoubtedly shaped Dena into the remarkable woman she became.
Dena lived a life of purpose and passion, inspiring those around her with her intelligence, creativity, and spirited nature. Her legacy will live on, not just in her professional achievements, but in the hearts and minds of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Dena’s family will receive visitors at her Family Hour on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 7-8 p.m. at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2023, in Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel with Jon Hazell officiating. Dena will be laid to rest in Durant at Highland Cemetery following her funeral service with only family and closest of friends.
