David Wayne Norman, 89 years old and a lifelong resident of Bryan County, Okla., passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, July 27, 2025. He was born on August 28, 1935, in Cobb, Okla. to Robert Utah and Maybelle Wingfield Norman. He married Mary Sue Pena on June 20, 1959, in Durant and they enjoyed 59 years together before her passing in April 2019.
David’s greatest joy was being a father to their 3 sons and 1daughter. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit and kindness to help anyone who was in need. David was a first-generation college graduate and was skilled in many trades. He worked several jobs over the years and retired as a rural mail carrier after 31 years of service to the US Postal Service. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, National Rural Letter Carriers Association, Durant Evening Lions Club, Durant Lions Booster Club, and the Oklahoma National Guard 45th Infantry. David enjoyed spending time with his family, visiting with people on the mail and newspaper routes, going to his kids and grandkids events, driving around town, and sitting on the back porch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, R.L. Pena; mother-in-law, Inez Pena; and several other family members.
Survivors include sons, Randy Norman, Ronnie and Ronda Norman, Kyle and Kelli Norman and daughter, Deirdre and Wes Schreier all of Durant, Okla.; grandchildren: Christy and Cody Cromer, Rachel and Seth Chancey, Rylan and Jenna Norman, Rett and Brianna Norman, Tice Norman and Christina Kitchell, Turner Norman, Kylee Schreier and Dava Schreier; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Norman; sisters, Patsy Hunt and Judy White; five sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and numerous other relatives.
A service to honor David will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church with Wes Schreier officiating.
Family Hour will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Rylan, Rett, Tice and Turner Norman, Braden and Kasen Hamilton, Cody Cromer, and Seth Chancey. Honorary Pallbearers include Hudson Hamilton and Brodee Crawford.
The family wishes to thank his personal care providers Tina Traer, Jayden Densmore, and Melinda Brown of Victory Home Health and Hospice for their help in caring for David over the last years.
