Darrell Veach Lyday

Darrell Veach Lyday, a resident of Durant, Okla., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather left this earthly life on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020 at the age of 84. He was born to Veach Lyday and Opal (Covington) Lyday on Feb. 1, 1935. Darrell married his beloved Wanda Holden in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on June 3, 1967.

Darrell was a member of the Baptist Church and taught sign language in Sherman, Texas. He enjoyed a quiet day with a fishing pole in his hand. Darrell enjoyed his collections of trains and cars, and he had a soft spot for his animals, especially his cats. He cherished his family and always looked forward to the time they spent together, especially cookouts.

Mr. Lyday was preceded in death by his parents, Veach and Opal Lyday.

Mr. Lyday is survived by his wife, Wanda of the home; son, William Lyday and wife Lisa Menchaca of Durant, Okla.; daughter, Tabitha Holden and husband Jay of Oklahoma City, Okla.; daughter-in-law, Margie Bodine Lyday of Durant, Okla.; grandchildren, Lanesa Hines and husband Buddy of Taneyville, Mo., Cara Snapp and husband James of Wright City, Okla., Angela Pena and husband Rupert of Junction, Texas, Harold Menchaca II of Durant, Okla., Butch Menchaca and wife Kaci of Durant, Okla., Samantha Menchaca-Cobb and husband Brian of Durant, Okla., Austin Lyday and wife Makayla of Durant, Okla., Cheyanne Owens and fiancé Zach Pratt of Coleman, Okla., and Geneva Guilbeau and husband Winston of Durant, Okla.; and by son-in-law and best friend, Jerry Owens of Caddo, Okla.

He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren Liam, Eli, Trustin, Rayce, Raven, JJ, Ellie, Lillian, Chloe, Rosalie, Riley, Kade, Blake, Harlow, Logan, Blakelynn, and Sawyer.

Family hour will be from 6-7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Okla. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13 at the Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo, Okla. with Bro. Anthony Williams officiating. Darrell’s pallbearers will be James Snapp, Harold Ray Menchaca II, Butch Menchaca, Austin Lyday, Zach Pratt, Winston Guilbeau, Rupert Péna, and Brian Cobb. His honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Owens and Buddy Hines.
