Dannie Rue (Cargile) Menefee passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, in Sherman, Texas at the age of 87. Dannie was born on May 19, 1939, in Motley, Texas to parents, Daniel Webster and Annie Irene (Goodwin) Cargile. She graduated high school and later married her sweetheart, Dwain Menefee on August 27, 1957, in Lazbuddie, Texas. Together they built a life of love and faith, and they were united as one for 63 years until Dwain’s passing on May 6, 2021.
Dannie worked as an Administrative Assistant until her retirement. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of The National Farmers Organization and Young Homemakers Organization. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, tending to her garden and flowers, and cooking. Her greatest joy in her life was her family.
Dannie is preceded in death by her beloved husband Dwain Menefee; parents Daniel and Annie Cargile; brother Preston Cargile; and sister Marlene McDonald.
Dannie is survived by her children, Joe Menefee and wife Rose of Powderly, Texas, Debbie Mefford and husband Terry of Mead, Okla., and Jim Menefee and wife Tina of Goshen, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Keith Menefee and wife Sherrie; sister-in-law Carolyn Freeman and husband Greg; sister-in-law Charlene Cargile; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Funeral services to celebrate the amazing life of Dannie will be held on Sunday June 28, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Brown’s Durant Funeral Service Chapel. Pastor Greg Thralls will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery in Durant with John Wright, Jacob Small, Dusty Menefee, Dusty Spalding, Jay Paul Wilcox, RJ Nichols, Clint Mefford, Mark Mefford, Dustin Fonte, and Shaedyn Wilcox serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Gavin Mefford, Matthew Wright, Isaac Wright, Canon Wilcox, Haddon Wilcox, Kruz Menefee, Zeke Nichols, Cree Nichols, John Small, Weston Spalding, and Ripp Spalding.
The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
