Daniel Pennington

Daniel “Danny” Alan Pennington was born November 19, 1962. He moved to Durant around 1976 and made a name for himself. After high school, Dan raised and sold exotic animals.  Soon after, he was a radio DJ/announcer for several years including on Durant’s KSEO radio. His voice and presence grew attention. This later opened a career as the leading DJ in a Ft. Worth-Dallas dance hall. Later, Dan gained employment in the Durant Democrat newspaper. He was skilled in photography, writing, auto mechanics, computers and electronics. Much was self-taught.

He sponsored the present Durant Diggers Facebook site which today captures an astonishing 10,000 plus members. Only good news was permitted, folks with pressing needs were helped and community events were highlighted. This was done from the kindness of his heart because he loved to help people.

Over the last few years, Dan’s health began to deteriorate. With his recent passing in March 2024, we know many in the community, whose lives he touched, will be affected. He left quite a legacy behind.

He was preceded in death by his mother Wanda Mae Wallis; father Ernest Brown; brothers Gary Locklar and Mike Harmon Sr.

He is survived by his children: Jeremy Buckmaster, Mykal Joiner, Danielle Pennington; brother, Tom Harmon; nephews, Jeff Harmon, Mike Harmon, Jr., David Harmon; neice, Tamra Harmon; cousins, Mickey Sehorn, Mark Sehorn; grandchildren: Serenity Buckmaster, Grayson Hamilton; mentors, Jim Harmon, William Streng, Mark Armstrong as well as several close friends.

Dan and his impact on those around him will be felt and missed.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Gordon Funeral Home in Durant, Okla.
