Coalgate woman killed in vehicle collision

JOHNSTON COUNTY – One person was killed and one injured in a two-vehicle accident on Tuesday morning.

Shanelle Watts, 51, of Coalgate, was driving a 2003 Ford van southbound on Oklahoma Highway 48 about seven miles south of Wapanucka at about 6:30 a.m., according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Robert Grimes, 56, of Atoka, was driving a 1987 Peterbilt semi southbound of Highway 48 at that time and place.

The semi stopped to make a left turn. The van struck the semi in the rear. Watts was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Grimes was driven to the Durant hospital where he was treated for a head injury and released.

Seat belts were equipped in both vehicles and in use in neither vehicle, according to the report.

The OHP was assisted in the investigation by the Tishomingo Fire Department, Tishomingo EMS, Wapanucka Fire Department, and Coleman Fire Department.
