The City of Durant and Durant Emergency Management are excited to announce the release of the Durant Weather Radar app.

App users will be able to access local weather conditions and forecast, as well as a live radar map. In addition to weather data, users will also have quick links to the City of Durant’s website and Durant Emergency Management’s website and social media pages.

“We are thrilled to finally be able to offer this resource to the public,” said Richard Ezell, Durant Emergency Management Director, “This app will let people be better able to see what is actually happening below 12,000 feet in the atmosphere.”

The Durant weather radar, installed in June 2023, serves as a “gap-filler” that the National Weather Service (NWS) will now be able to utilize for increasingly accurate weather reports.

“Prior to the radar installation, the NWS was only able to collect data over 12,000 feet in the atmosphere above Durant,” Ezell said. “This will allow the NWS to make better alerting decisions for our area.”

The free app is currently available on the Apple App Store and is soon to be released on the Google Play Store.
