DURANT – Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Chief Gary Batton released a statement regarding Gov. Kevin Stitt’s statements at a Tulsa Regional Chamber event.

“We understand we will have honest policy differences with Gov. Stitt. However, we should be able to agree on the facts,” Batton said. “That is impossible when he deliberately spreads falsehoods. The fact is, Oklahoma’s tribes – including the Choctaw Nation – never disbanded. Congress never withdrew its recognition of our status as a sovereign nation with certain rights, no matter what Gov. Stitt says.”

“The Choctaw Nation will always protect its sovereignty and will always remain proud Oklahomans. We continue our commitment to cooperation with the state, counties and cities to encourage economic development and protect public safety.”
