DURANT – On Wednesday, the Choctaw Casino & Resort-Durant played host to an event to help empower women as Women’s History Month was coming to a close.
The Grand Summit Ballroom was site of its inaugural Women’s Symposium, an event it would like to continue in upcoming years. More than 60 athletes from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and others were in attendance.
Six speakers were on hand to share about their lives, career paths, experiences, obstacles and more.
Kaley Green, Regional Director of Marketing at the resort, spoke about getting to invest in the lives of those who participated.
“We talked about mentors and what life looks like after the sport that you are playing and what is to come,” Green said.
Two panels spoke with the athletes, showcasing Women in Leadership within the Choctaw Casino & Resort and Resort partners from the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
“Last year, the group that was on my panel attended the Mavs’ symposium, which was all about innovation and females in leadership,” Green said. “We left that super excited and said we’ve got to bring that back here to Choctaw.
“How do we get in going in Year One and with the Southeastern partnership, it just evolved and it was very natural. The team at Southeastern is phenomenal to work with – Keith Baxter and his team. And we were able to bring it together as a part of March, which is International Women’s History Month.”
Green said this is something that is in place to continue and get bigger and better in the future.
