Charles Julian Mimms, 72, of Durant, Okla. passed away on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019 in Oklahoma City, Okla. He was born on July 17, 1947 in Dallas, Texas to Julian Arnold and Ruby Lee (Ford) Mimms.
He graduated from Sunset High School and Brookhaven College in Dallas, Texas, later retiring from the City of Dallas in 2003. The cornerstone of his family, Charles married Debra Holder on Sept. 18, 1976.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army, which took him to Germany. A deacon at The River Church, Charles enjoyed collecting knives, spending time with his grandsons, and was very family oriented.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son Stephen DeWayne Mimms.
Charles is survived by daughters: Leigh-Anna Mazzone and husband Richard and Lynnsey Mimms, all of Durant, Okla.; sister, Patricia Ann Mimms-Blomquist of Dallas, Texas; grandsons: Richard Charles Kale Mazzone and Kaydon Mason Julian Mimms both of Durant, Okla.; niece, Kristan Julia Brannon of Dallas, Texas; and great-niece, Elizabeth Anne Brannon of Dallas, Texas; as well other aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
Services to honor Charles’ life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2019 at The River Church in Durant, Okla. with Pastor Ann Hollar officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Durant, Okla. A family hour will be held Thursday evening, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Service in Durant, OK.
