My House bills that would allow the creation of a transactional gold and silver depository in the state and that would officially recognize gold and silver as legal tender in Oklahoma moved forward this week in the Senate.
Sen. David Bullard passed the bills in the Senate Retirement and Government Resources Committee on Tuesday.
Also moving forward is my bill that would create a tax credit for anyone donating to a Pregnancy Resource Center. This bill passed the Senate Revenue and Taxation Committee
I’m hopeful these measures will come to a vote on the Senate floor soon.
Also this week, the appointment of a new state Supreme Court justice was announced. Travis Jett, of Woodward, was appointed to the court by Gov. Kevin Stitt. Jett is a fourth-generation Oklahoman who has represented plaintiffs and defendants, including a former governor, the state Board of Education, publicly traded corporations, privately held companies, family farms and more. I’m glad to see this position filled.
I got to help recognize several student contest winners in the House this week.
Andrea Ramos, an eighth-grader at Colbert Middle School, took second place in the sixth- through eighth-grade division of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s annual Trash Poster Contest. Her picture, “Oklahoma Native Land Keep Our Land Clean” will be featured for the month of March in the TPC 2026 calendar. Her teacher is Judy Stephens.
Rilyn Teafatiller, a 10th-grader at Calera High School, won third place in the ninth- through 12th-grade division. with her artwork titled, “Keep Oklahoma Clean.” Her picture will be featured for the month of May in next year’s calendar. Her teacher is Jeana Holt.
Congratulations to both of these students and their teachers. Fantastic job.
Another young woman very deserving of our congratulations is Joslyn, of Boys & Girls Club of Durant. She was selected as the Youth of the Year for all of Oklahoma and will be representing the Boys and Girls Clubs of Red River Valley OK and Oklahoma in the regional finals in May. What an extraordinary honor to be chosen from many deserving youth to represent this fantastic organization and our entire state.
This weekend, many people across Oklahoma will celebrate Easter, also known to many Christians as Resurrection Sunday. It’s a day when believers recognize the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who came to earth to live a sinless life and to die for the sins of all mankind. His resurrection is the best news the world could have gotten. Instead of paying the penalty for our many sins, those who believe in the saving blood of Christ, are assured of eternal salvation and the promise of being with him in heaven. For all who believe, I wish you a very happy Easter.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve. It’s an honor to represent the great people of District 21.
