Calera child killed in ATV accident in Johnston County

MANNSVILLE – An 8-year-old girl from Calera was fatally injured on Saturday evening in an ATV accident.

The driver of a 2009 Yamaha Grizzly ATV, whose identity is currently under investigation, stopped the vehicle to let passengers off, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The vehicle rolled forward and struck the 8-year-old girl who was not on the ATV. She was transported by the Johnston County EMS to Mercy Hospital in Ardmore and pronounced by the medical staff to have died from head injuries.

Passengers on the ATV included a 6-year-old boy from Calera and 7-year-old and 4-year-old girls from Stillwater.

None of the names of the juveniles have been released in the report.

The condition of the driver and cause of the collision are still under investigation.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troop F was assisted in the investigation by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Mannsville Fire Department, and Johnston County EMS.
