Bryan County’s plans for re-opening

Release

The County had an Elected Official’s meeting on Monday morning and it was decided that the County will plan to reopen the County facilities to limited public access on Monday, May 18. It should be noted that each Elected Official has the authority to establish their own reopening schedule for their department. At this time to minimize confusion to the public, an effort is being made to standardize on a common date for all the departments.

The Judicial Department is under the authority of the District Judge and he will establish the method and time in which the Court system will reopen through a court order. At this time, a limited opening Bryan County court system is also being planned for May 18.
This extended period of time will allow the County to develop policies to manage the public while accessing the buildings and do some modifications of the offices like create a barrier (shield) between the public and county employees, mark off social distancing areas, etc.
During this extended time, it will hopefully provide a chance for the County to secure adequate PPE supplies for the employees’ needs.
The County is planning a follow-up Elected Officials meeting on May 15 at 9 a.m. to review the readiness status needed to reopen and the current status of the local pandemic environment. If everything is a go, then we will reopen on May 18.
In the interim, all of the County Departments are operational, but no public access is allowed. Please call the associated department should you need to physically exchange documents and arrangements will be made.
