Bruce Moore

Bruce Moore, beloved father, grandfather and uncle, longtime Bryan County resident and owner of the Wrinkle Sock Ranch, passed away on Aug. 1, 2021 in Durant, Okla. at the age of 97. He was born June 13, 1924 in Durant, Okla. to W. S. (Tobe) Moore and Julia Mae Moore.

Bruce was an active member of First Church of the Nazarene and proud that his grandfather had donated the land on which their first church was built at another location. In early years, he drove the church bus. He was a devout Christian, loved the Lord and was known for his lengthy prayers at family gatherings.

His mother was a teacher in both Mead and Kiersey, which he and sister, Elizabeth, attended. He then went to Durant schools. After high school, he went on his many life adventures. He worked at the stock yard in Oklahoma City, worked as a tire salesman, later formed and operated a trucking company. When his father passed he returned to the farm resuming his father’s business cattle raising and Moore Fence Co. After his cousin put him into the hog business, he began raising pigs on the farm. He continued that business until he retired.

When he was 13, his mother passed and he and his sister became very close and comforted each other for years to come. When his health declined and his sister had been widowed, he moved into town with her creating the old bond of comfort.

The two of them made daily afternoon trips to the Wrinkle Sock with food to feed any dog that showed up for lunch. His regular comment to her was, “Do you want to go with me to feed the puppy dogs.”

For many years, he would gather produce at local markets to feed his livestock. Occasionally, he received edible items and not being one to let anything go to waste, he delivered them to people in need.

That was his ministry without calling attention to himself as he was a simple man. He felt the Lord had provided for his needs and he wanted to minister to others.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Juanita McCoy; daughter, Charlotte Moore Worsham; sister, Elizabeth Moore Mitchell-Beavers; step-mother, Edna Irene Iker Moore; half-sister, Twylia Jean Moore Johnson and grandson, Danny Joe Worsham.

Those left to treasure his memory are son, Ted Moore and wife Vicki Belcher of Durant, Okla.; daughters, Sherry Moore Meador and husband James of Newcastle, Okla., Candy Moore Reece and husband Bob of Oklahoma City, Okla.; former wife and mother of Ted and Candy, Elizabeth Loyd Diehm; grandchildren: Marsha Worsham, Matt Meador, Jamie Meador and Jennifer Willis, Summer Casey, Jennifer Belcher and Amber Belcher.

A funeral service will be held at The Monterey (formerly The First Church of the Nazarene), on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. Pastor Brent Smith will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be William Lyday, Jeff Patton, Lonnie Crawford, Dewayne Williams, Donnie Portman and Josh Kirby.
