Bob Rogers

Robert Allen “Bob” Rogers was born January 26, 1945 in Burkburnett, Texas to Elmer (Buster) and Odoska Jane Rogers. He passed from this life on Thursday, October 12, 2023 in Calera, Okla., at the age of 78.

Bob graduated from Calera High School in 1963 and Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1971. He received a degree in Conservation, with a minor in Business Administration.

After a short time in the Army, Bob became a fireman. He climbed the ranks to Assistant Fire Chief and became known as “Pappy.” He retired after 25 years with the Durant Fire Department. He also worked for Luke Brothers for many years and spent most of his life as a cattleman.

He cherished the friendships created throughout his life. Bob lived by the values of the FFA creed – “…I believe in the future of agriculture, with a faith born not of words but of deeds…” And in 2007, earned the Honorary State FFA Degree.

Bob was a proud member of the Calera Alumni Association – he remained close to his classmates throughout his life. He spent a lifetime carrying on the tradition of supporting the task of maintaining Rose Hill Cemetery – even donating his land for its expansion. He served countless hours with the Durant Round-Up Club, SE Equestrian Team, Bryan County Fair Board Association, and 4-H. He endured the heat through many fairs and shivered from the cold at countless junior livestock shows. He enjoyed watching Bryan county youth go through the “Show Ring” and later grow up into productive adults.

Bob loved sweets, Blue Bell ice cream and a well-done steak.

A friend of his recently stated, “He was a good man. A man of his word and his word was his bond.” No truer words have ever been spoken.

Bob is survived by his son, Chad Rogers and wife Leanne of Sanger, Texas; daughter, RocAnn Smith, and husband, Wade of Brighton, Colo.; grandchildren: Chance Rogers and fiancé Ashley Maioriello, Samantha and Troy Parker and soon to be, first great-granddaughter Kyelynn Parker; brother, Elmer Rogers; honorary brother, Donald Ray Davis; nieces and nephews: Merrilee and Kevin Davis; Andrea and Justin Mersiovsky, Marti and Greg Phillips, Kim and Tracy Rogers, Tina and Rhett Rogers, Celena and Jim Weaver; and many special cousins, classmates, and close friends that he considered family.
