Beverly Lawson

Beverly Jeanette (Potts) Lawson of Albany, Okla. was born on July 7, 1952 at the Haynie Hospital in Durant, Okla. to James O. (Tuffy) and Evelyn (Gower) Potts. Beverly passed into her heavenly home on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at the age of 67.

Along with her parents and siblings, Beverly lived in various towns in Texas and Oklahoma. After graduating from high school in Weatherford, Okla., she returned to Bryan County in 1972. There she met and married Ronnie W. Lawson in 1973 and completed their family with a daughter, Victoria Rose, born in 1974. They lived in different locations across Oklahoma before moving to Georgia in 1987.

During this time, Beverly was a homemaker and spent many hours sewing, canning, and caring for her family. After Ronnie’s death in 1995, Beverly moved back to Oklahoma where she went to work, and in 1999 began working as a dispatcher with the Durant Police Department. She retired from the department in 2014.

Beverly was an active member of Albany Baptist Church where she served as the pianist and the treasurer for many years. She was a self- taught pianist and loved playing gospel songs. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed providing meals for family gatherings and church functions, as well as pies for auctions at Wade- Albany Senior Center. She was an avid book reader and enjoyed helping her sister in her book store. Most of her family called her by a life-long nickname of “Biddy”.

Beverly was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ronnie, parents James and Evelyn Potts, and brothers Anthony and James Michael Potts.

She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Rose Mathews of Bokchito; sisters: Brenda Neyman of Bokchito and Susie Wilson (Myron) of Bokchito; sister-in-law, Marilyn Potts of Hinton; nephews: Stewart Hoffman (Sarah) and children Kane and Kira of Durant, Clinton Hoffman (fiancé Lindsey French) and son Cooper of Durant, John Potts (Morgen) and Baby Potts of Atoka, and Thad Potts of Longdale; sisters-in-law: Ida “Sissy” Pickett (Don), Ruby Stoneking, Annie Greenhaw (Thomas), Laurie Atkinson (Buzzy), Lena Mae Lawson (Noel); sister-in-law, Ellis Lawson, and brother-in-law Johnny Lawson (Linda), along with numerous nephews and nieces of the Lawson family.

She also leaves her aunt Mary Hurst (Luther) of Emory, Texas, and aunt Lillian Thomas (Jessie) of Bokchito, and many cousins and friends.

A celebration of life service was held on Monday, Feb. 24, 2020 at Albany Baptist Church with interment at Bokchito Cemetery.

Services under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
