Betty Garrard

Betty Sue Garrard left this life on Feb. 10, 2021 at the age of 88. She was born in Chickalah, Ark. to Gladys Ruby Blevins Thacker and Noah Dempsey Thacker on Nov. 24, 1932.

Betty met Harold, the love of her life, at a dance in Seminole, Okla. and they were married on March 24, 1954. Together they raised three children, were blessed with seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 2020 and were together every day until his death in November.

She loved visits from her children, grandchildren and especially the great-grandchildren. Going to their various sporting events and special church or school programs was the highlight of her day. She was extremely proud of each and every one of them.

Betty is survived by daughter, Peggy Spencer and husband Norman of Durant, Okla.; son, Ted Garrard and wife Sherri of Blanchard, Okla.; daughter, Brenda Crow and husband Ray of Durant, Okla.; grandsons: Cody and wife Leslie of Bokchito, Okla., Nick Spencer and wife Amanda of Durant, Okla., Josh Spencer and wife Shi of Duncan, Okla., Brad Stevenson and wife Maegan of Sherman, Texas, Blake Garrard and wife Trisha of Blanchard, Okla., Cory Garrard and wife Josie of Blanchard, Okla.; granddaughter, Sara Stevenson of Austin, Texas; great-grandchildren: Rachel Spencer, Sam Spencer, Peyton Spencer, Ian Spencer, Jaxon Spencer, Caynon Spencer, Brantly Garrard, Jake Garrard and Reilly Stevenson; brothers, Bill Davenport and wife Kay, Don Davenport, Jim Davenport and wife Donna; brother-in-law, Jack Garrard and wife Janet, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Garrard; mother, Gladys Davenport; stepfather, Albert Wesley Davenport; sisters: Dorothy Cook, Margaret Cook, Ruby Jewel Pikey, Gay Nelle Fleming, Freda Sanders and brothers: Ray Thacker and Leroy Thacker.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church in Durant, Okla. with Bro. Anthony Williams and Bro. Darel Bunch officiating. Family hour will be before the service at 1 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Calera, Okla. Her pallbearers will be Gary Davenport, Randy Davenport, Bryan Davenport, John Davenport, Nolan Davenport, and Johnny Garrard.
