BRYAN COUNTY – A benefit for Jason Dowd will be held Saturday at Top Notch Turf and K&B Gun Range between Achille and Colbert.
The event will include a shotgun contest, a silent auction and fish fry dinner.
Diana Weger is one of the hosts of the event and spoke about how it
“This Saturday, Top Notch Turf along with several farmers and others in the area have come together to do a fish fry for Jason Dowd and his family,” Weger said. And we have a shooting range that people are very excited to experience, so we wanted to put on a shooting contest with all the proceed going to Jason as well.
“And then we’ll have a silent auction with donations from all around the area that evening.”
Weger said her family has known Dowd for a long time.
“Jason is a local guy who is self-employed, has his own truck and he hauls sod,” Weger said. “He was involved in a really bad accident in the early part of June. He’s been in the hospital with very serious injuries.
Being self-employed, he hasn’t been able to work and his health is not the greatest still. They’re hoping that he is able to come home soon, but not sure yet when he will be able to get back to work. So we just all wanted to rally together and be able to help him as much as we can.”
Weger said the idea started out as just that, an idea on paper. But the response on Facebook to that idea has been more than they even expected and they are working hard in the closing days to get everything ready.
Activities get underway at 4 p.m. with the shotgun contest. Practice rounds can be purchased as well and start at 2 p.m.
More than $5,000 dollars worth of items have been donated for the silent auction, which is scheduled to run from 5-8 p.m.
The fish fry starts at 6 p.m.
All proceeds will go to Dowd and his family to help with medical expenses.
The location is 8686 State Road 91 at the Top Notch Turf farm.
