DURANT – The Durant branch of Advance America is again taking an opportunity to slow down for a day to give to the community.
The company is having a fundraiser on location with the proceeds going to the Durant Crisis Center.
Lisa McAdoo, center manager for the Durant branch, said the company likes to help the community.
“Every year, as the manager I get to pick a place or something in the community that we can help with,”McAdoo said. “This year, we had heard about the Durant Crisis Center and they need help with domestic violence awareness. So we decided to do a fundraiser on Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.”
A three-on-three basketball tournament is headlining the event this year with prizes for first and second places. The registration form is at the bottom of this column.
There will also be a silent auction, bounce houses, a bake sale, massages, a blood drive and more.
“he Choctaw Nation gave us a room and we’re going to have a raffle for that,” McAdoo said. “We’ll have some vendors in the parking lot selling their items and they will all be donating their proceeds from the day to the Crisis Center, also. We’ll have a pet adoption, blood drive, bounce house and a lot of things going on.
“We’re located just across the street from Chicken Express and behind Billy Sims Barbecue.”
This is the fifth year Advance America in Durant has held an event like this. Each year, the proceeds go to a different cause with those causes ranging from groups in need, like those with autism, to individuals, as a local patient diagnosed with leukemia.
“This year, it’s a little bit different. We’ve never done the three-on-three basketball, but so far we’re getting a lot of feedback that everybody is really excited about it. And I’m hoping to have a lot of stuff going on and for everybody to have fun.”
McAdoo said her staff is a great group.
“Our store and our people love to help,” McAdoo said. “Tassa, Jay and Candace (McAdoo’s co-workers) are a great team. They will help you with anything, even if it’s not something we do here in our store. We’ll help you find an answer for your financial problems.”
