Ada Hodge

Ada Ella Hodge, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, May 14, 2026, in Sherman, Texas. She was born west of Caddo, Oklahoma, on September 9, 1931, to Houston S. and Allie Rae Deason.

She lived out all of her days in Caddo, Oklahoma. She was born a sharecropper’s daughter and worked in her early life with her brother Bob in the fields of cotton, corn, and various crops. She attended her early school years at Carrol’s Chapel and Midway, and later years at Caddo Public School. She married Johnnie (Dick) Hodge on October 13, 1948, in Sherman, Texas. They began their 69 years of marriage working side by side in the migrant fields of Southern California’s San Joaquin Valley during the ’50s and ’60s.

Ada worked in the home raising five children and was also a caregiver for various Caddo residents. She was known for her heart of service and volunteer work in her community. She was known to feed many kiddos in Caddo, stretching a pound of meat to feed the masses. Her favorite pastime was being a loving mother and “grannie” to all her family. She was so proud to say she lived to see five generations of the Hodge family. She enjoyed traveling with her family, beginning with her first trip to Hopkinsville, Kentucky, where she visited her ancestral home.

Ada attended worship at the Caddo Church of Christ since the early 1960s. She rarely missed attendance throughout those years and worked hard in service of the Lord. She was known for her strong spirit and Biblical knowledge.
