BRYAN COUNTY – Two people were injured and another fled the scene of the incident Sunday evening east of Durant.
A 2011 Dodge Caliber driven by a 24-year-old man from Bokchito whose name has not yet been released was traveling east on U.S. Highway 70. The vehicle attempted to pass another vehicle when the Caliber swerved and lost control, departing the roadway to the right striking an embankment, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The driver was transported by Bryan County EMS to Alliance Health in Durant. He was later transported by Air Evac to Plano Medical Center and admitted in critical condition with head and trunk internal injuries.
A 22-year-old woman from Durant, whose name also has not yet been released, was transported by Air Evac to Plano and admitted in critical condition, with unknown injuries.
A second passenger, an unknown male, pending identification, fled scene at time of accident with unknown injuries.
The cause of the accident and the condition of the driver are both still under investigation, according to the report. Seatbelts were equipped in the vehicle, but no in use by any.
The OHP was assisted in the investigation by the Bryan County EMS, the Philadelphia Volunteer Fire Department, and Bryan County Sheriff’s Office.
