Hazel Faye Smith of Durant, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the age of 72. She was born on January 25, 1947 to Clyde L. and Gracie (Boyd) Deason in Oklahoma City, Okla.
A lifelong resident Bryan County, Hazel married James K. Smith on Nov. 2, 1963. The couple spent many wonderful years together before his passing on October 1, 1993. She was a beloved mother who worked many jobs but her favorite job was taking care of her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, being a caregiver to the elderly and spending time with her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Clyde and Gracie Deason; husband, James K. Smith; brothers, Jim and Jerry Deason; sister, Joyce Evans and nephews, Leon and Joey Beach.
Survivors include her daughter, Janna Summerville and husband Kelly; sons, James Smith Jr. and Mark Smith; sisters, Gladys Knight and Betty Beach; brother, Gary Deason; grandchildren, Chris Smith, Summer Hanson, Michael Smith, Rusel Smith, Ashley Summerville, Ethan Summerville and Kindra Smith; great-grandchildren, Stephen Smith, Kyndrey Osborne, Emery Jo Smith, Carson Hanson and Knox Lee Hanson and numerous nieces, nephews and beloved family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2019 at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Bro. Anthony Williams will officiate. Interment will follow in Mead Cemetery with Christopher Smith, Michael Smith, Ethan Summerville, Rob Boston, Wade LaVoie and Earl Bully serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m.
