Excitement is in the air as members of Caddo Community Association and other volunteers dress up the street for Heritage Day.

Flowers have been trimmed up and tires are rolling into place, to be part of the decorations to “Let the Good Times Roll”. Scarecrows will welcome passersby on Friday afternoon, next to Craighead’s, waiting for the contest results. Families, churches and other organizations are putting final touches on decorated vehicles and floats, for the parade. The parade, which is attracting entries from all over the state, will start at 10 a.m., led by Parade Marshal Bill Miller.
In the Rock Community Building, Peggy Hall and her helpers have been working this week to set up items for the silent auction, a Heritage Day tradition and important fund raiser to support the charitable events provided by CCA throughout the year. Peggy has been selected to be honored at Heritage Day as Caddo’s 2018 Outstanding Citizen.
Elementary school children have submitted their art work, which is to be displayed in the hallway by the Caddo Police Department. The children have done a wonderful job of portraying the theme “Let the Good Times Roll.” Many of the entries have shown a good understanding of the Historic Jefferson Highway, which is being honored at Heritage Day. Ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, and first place winners receive a $10 prize.
The all-day free entertainment will bring a variety of talent for spectators to enjoy. The opening act at 9 a.m., brought back by popular demand, will be the SOSU Chorvettes, directed by Aaron Adair.
The flag ceremony will be conducted by Atoka Boy Scout Troop 92, under the direction of Olin Huskey, and assisted by Caddo Masonic Lodge No. 3. The national anthem will be presented by Jason Tally.

At 11a.m., Emma Blackburn will give a vocal performance, followed by Caddo High School Cheer Dance Team, under the direction of Jackie Jo Coe. Caddo Elementary School children will perform at 11:20, and Blue River Fellowship choir at 11:40. Peggy Hall will then be honored as Caddo’s 2018 Outstanding Citizen.
The first of several prize drawings will be held just before noon, and the Ag Boosters 50/50 drawing will be held at 12:50. Other prize winning tickets will be drawn at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. At noon, Durant Dance Unlimited will give a 45 minute performance, with youth performers of all ages. Seating will be available in the stage area. The final performance, from 2-4 p.m., will be a live band, as requested by many regular Heritage Day goers.
Caddo Community Association encourages visitors to stop first at their Information Booth, located by the pavilion, to receive a print copy of the day’s schedule. Each visitor will receive a traditional gift: a wooden nickel. Heritage Day Tee shirts are for sale at Craigheads, and will be offered at the information booth on Saturday.
