Storm sweep past the Muleriders

DURANT – Southeastern dominated from the opening serve to sweep Southern Arkansas 3-0 in Bloomer Sullivan Gym on Thursday night.

Rylee Jackson paced a Savage Storm attack that hit .302 as a team with 19 kills, and was joined in double figures by Gabby Jones, who slammed down 15 kills. Jones added 15 digs to her totals for a double-double, and Jasmin Dion joined with a double-double, recording 41 assists and 11 digs.

Nykeriah Allen paced the SE defense up front with 5.0 total blocks and had a hand in the attacking efforts with six kills. Patience Lewis led the team with 21 assists and was one of three players with a service ace in the match.

SET ONE
Southeastern was locked in at the start of set one, as the blue and gold raced ahead to a 10-3 lead behind three kills by Jackson and two more from Jones. The Storm continued to score in bunches, ripping off a 6-0 run featuring a pair of kills by Allen to push the gap to 18-6. Jackson began to heat up again, slamming down three more kills down the stretch to give the Storm a 25-17 set win.

SET TWO
The Mulerider offense was off to a faster start in the second frame, leading 6-3, but SE used two quick 3-0 runs to grab a 12-9 advantage. SAU kept on the heels of the Storm, tying the set 14-14, but Southeastern would soon capitalize on a pair of Mulerider errors to build a 4-0 burst, leading 22-18. Southern Arkansas continued to apply pressure, pulling within one twice at 22-21 and 24-23, but a kill by Lewis would hold off the Muleriders to take the frame 25-23.

SET THREE
SE used another quick start to the third to race ahead 8-3, which grew to 10-4 after back-to-back kills by Jackson. The Muleriders answered back with a flurry of points to trim the SE edge to one, but the Storm were quick to reply, rattling off five straight points to jump out in front 18-12. Jackson and Jones would soon combine for three more kills to make it 22-15, before the Storm closed out the set on a 3-0 run to take it 25-16.

Southeastern (8-9, 3-3) closes out its home stand tomorrow at 4 p.m. against Arkansas-Monticello in Bloomer Sullivan Gym.
