Tammy Avery of Madill, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at the age of 63. She was born on Tuesday, November 6, 1962 in Great Falls, Montana to Sharon Jean (Novy) and Charles Leroy Wombold.
Tammy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt whose life was centered around her faith, her family, and caring for others.
Graduated from high school in Great Falls, Montana. She then enlisted in the United States Army, where she met her husband Keith. Following their military service, Tammy faithfully stood alongside Keith throughout his years in ministry, embracing her role as a minister’s wife and sharing in his service to others.
Tammy later became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked in several nursing homes before beginning a rewarding career in Home Health and Hospice. Caring for others came naturally to Tammy. Her patients’ needs often came before her own, and she cared for them with the same compassion, devotion, and love she would have shown members of her own family.
Tammy loved tending to her garden, where she grew vegetables and beautiful flowers. She enjoyed filling her yard with wind chimes and decorations. Tammy also had a special place in her heart for dogs and enjoyed the companionship and happiness they brought to her life. She especially loved attending church and being surrounded by others who shared her love for the Lord. Her faith was an important part of who she was, and her heart was filled with joy and love for God.
Above all else, Tammy treasured her family. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson and cherished every opportunity she had to spend time with them. She never took those moments for granted. Tammy had a heart of gold, and those who had the privilege of knowing her could not help but love her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Melvin “Keith” Avery; parents Sharon and Charles Wombold; brother Mike Wombold; paternal grandparents Mary and Chris Wombold; maternal grandparents Maggy and George Novy.
Survivors include her sons Michael Avery of Madill, Oklahoma, Channing Avery of Caddo, Oklahoma, Justin Avery of McAlester, Oklahoma; daughter Kristina Harner of Wapanucka, Oklahoma; grandchildren Jalyne Posey of Wapanucka, Oklahoma, Rylan Avery of McAlester, Oklahoma; great-grandson Dixon Posey of Wapanucka, Oklahoma; brothers Jamie Wombold of Hampton, Virginia, Randy Wombold of Great Falls, Montana, John Wombold of Great Falls, Montana, David Wombold of Hampton, Virginia; sisters Mary Henry of Great Falls, Montana, Cherly Monfette of Florida; aunt Sue Bomer of McAlester, Oklahoma; uncles Christy Wombold of Great Falls, Montana, Lauren Wombold of Havre, Montana; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, as well as other extended family and friends.
A family visitation service will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at The Gordon Center, 305 N 2nd Avenue, Durant, Oklahoma.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at The Gordon Center, 305 N. Second Ave. in Durant with Bro. Stuart Bailey officiating. A graveside service will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo, Oklahoma. Her sons will serve as pallbearers.
