WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern and Southwestern Oklahoma State battled through three sets of action, but the Savage Storm fell 3-0 to the Bulldogs in the Pioneer Event Center.
The blue and gold had two players with double-digit kills, led by Gabby Jones with 13, while Rylee Jackson chipped in 11 kills. Jasmin Dion facilitated the attack with 30 assists and added eight digs to her totals. Patience Lewis and Kylee Turner recorded 14 and 11 digs, respectively, while Anger Ngeth and Nykeriah Allen each had 3.0 total blocks.
Southeastern (6-9, 1-3 GAC) returns to Bloomer Sullivan Gym to host Southern Nazarene on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m.
SET ONE
The Bulldogs jumped on the Storm early, using a fast start to grab an 11-3 lead. A pair of kills by SE helped the blue and gold find their footing, and the Storm soon rattled off a 4-0 run to trim the deficit to five, 14-9. Southeastern continued to chip away at the Bulldog lead, closing the gap to 21-17 through a pair of kills by Jackson. SE kept up the pressure, forcing SWOSU into a timeout at 24-21, and extended the run to six straight points to tie the set 24-all.
The two sides traded the next three points, and SE soon had set point at 27-26 after back-to-back kills by Jackson. However, the Bulldogs charged back to win the next three points to claim the set 29-27.
SET TWO
The Storm opened the scoring to take a 4-1 lead and later went ahead 14-11 on a 6-1 run after seeing two ties. The Bulldogs weathered SE’s early flurry to take the lead again, 17-15, behind a flurry of scores, but Southeastern continued to battle, staying within one, 21-20, by a Sophee Dean kill. Despite the pressure from the Storm, SWOSU would hold off the blue and gold to win the frame 25-21.
SET THREE
SWOSU raced out a 9-4 advantage, and their lead grew to 13-5 after a 4-0 run. SE answered back with a 6-0 run featuring three kills by Ngeth to close the gap to two, but Southwestern picked up the pace again to stretch its lead to 17-11. The Bulldogs’ advantage soon grew to 21-14, and they would hold their edge to match point, winning 25-18.
