Sylvia Nell Taylor

Sylvia Nell “Sis” Taylor, 91, of Utica, Oklahoma, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 7, 2026, in Denison, Texas.

Sis was born December 28, 1934, in Utica, Oklahoma, to Glen and Maudie Mitchell. As the oldest of nine children, she lovingly helped raise her eight brothers and sisters, a role she carried with strength and devotion. She attended Utica School and enjoyed playing basketball during her school years.

On August 30, 1952, she married Weldon Taylor. They made their home in Fort Worth, Texas, where they raised their three children. Sis worked for many years as a custodian for the City of Hurst. After retiring, she and Weldon enjoyed traveling together and later served as park hosts at Grapevine Lake before returning home to Utica to be near family.

Sis loved sports and could often be found cheering on the young athletes of Bryan County. She treasured time with her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter Lauren watching episodes of Beavis and Butt-Head. Her faith, family, and church were the center of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Weldon Taylor; her son, Roy Glen Taylor; granddaughter Lauren Hunter; grandson Drew Carter; brothers Elbert “Hoss” Mitchell, Roy Mitchell, and Glen “Jack” Mitchell; and sister Sue Pickett.

Sis is survived by her son, George “Bubby” Taylor and wife Tina of Azle, Texas; daughter Pam Carter of Utica, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law Vickie Taylor of Rockport, Texas; grandchildren Christopher Taylor and wife Jessica, Joshua Taylor, Brandon Taylor, Kandra Taylor, Anthony Hunter, and Jordan Carter and wife Kady; great-grandchildren Carrissa, Shannon, Eric, Victoria, Sara, Noah, Monti, and Cash; and great-great-grandchild Josiah, with Walker expected in April; brothers, Shorty Mitchell and wife Deanna; Troy Mitchell; Sisters, Hellen Mitchell; Brenda Russell and husband David; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Utica Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Wolfe Creek Cemetery in Utica, Oklahoma.

The family asks that if anyone wishes to donate that it be made to Wolfe Creek Cemetery fund for maintenance. Donations can be sent to First United Bank, and the account is under Wolfe Creek Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral and Cremation Services.
