Lois Deborah Gluck of Durant, Okla., passed from this life on Friday, December 27, 2024 at the age of 98. She was born on Monday, May 24, 1926 in Rochester, N.Y., to Robert Leonard and Marie (Gibbs) Tressler.
She attended high school at Spotsylvania High School in Spotsylvania, Va., and graduated in 1945. From 1945-1947, she attended Richmond Professional Institute in Richmond, Va. She found a passion in music and then attended the New School of Music in Philadelphia, Pa. from 1947-1949. She also attended Bob Jones University of Greenville, S.C., where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s in Music, and where she taught on music faculty.
Over the years, she had many jobs. She worked at the United States Post Office, Northside Baptist Church, where she started the Christian Day School. She was a principal and kindergarten teacher. She also worked at Sears Roebuck Department Store. In her home she taught Child Evangelism, cello, piano and voice. Lois was a gifted and sincere Bible teacher who enjoyed the fellowship of study with Christian ladies in whatever church she was in. Her friends within Calvary Baptist Church in Durant were a delight to her.
Lois enjoyed staying on top of current news in the world. She also enjoyed cooking, reading, and gardening.
The most fun she ever had was playing mood music in films while a cellist in the Bob Jones University orchestra. She liked to sit around the kitchen table cracking nuts and talking with her grandsons.
She loved each grandson in a different way but with the same intensity. She loved talking to each one about what was important to him. Just for the record, she would tuck in a little advice and each one always received it.
Her great-grandbaby, Emily, came from grandson Seth’s great selection of his wife Christy when they started a Christian home together. Lois had special delight when Emily’s little face looked up at her and laughed. Now Avery has joined this home making Lois’ second great granddaughter.
