Nelda Faye (Miller) Probst was born on Tuesday, August 4, 1942 at the homeplace in Blue, Okla., to parents Sylvester Miller and Eva Lenora (McGehee) Miller. She went into the presence of her Lord and Savior at 11:57 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the age of 82.
Nelda grew up and attended schools in Blue, graduating in 1961. After graduation, she moved to the Dallas area and worked in the banking industry, employed as a supervisor in the legal department with Republic National Bank and later the Lakewood National Bank for many years. Nelda moved back to Blue in 1980 and became a stay at home mom taking care of her family. She married Don Marion Probst on August 28, 1980 in Dallas, Texas. He precedes her in death in 1993.
Nelda was very talented at everything she did. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, dancing, and writing songs. She was a long-time member of Blue Baptist Church.
Nelda was also preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Juanita Hair, Billie Jo Rodgers, Opal Marie Rodgers, Andrew Jackson Miller, Vesta Lucille Beal, and Jerry Douglas Miller.
She is survived by her sons, Randal Hickman and his wife, Karri of Durant, Okla., and Arnold Hickman and his wife, Valerie of Denison, Texas; a sister, Iva Draper of Boyd, Texas; brothers, Don Miller of Amarillo, Texas and Edward Miller of Albuquerque, N.M.; her granddaughters, Laci Hodgkins and husband, Sean of Sherman, Texas and Lauren Newman of Denison, Texas; her grandsons, Tracey Hickman and wife, Melissa of Kingston, Okla., and Zachary Hickman and wife, Angela of Muskogee, Okla.; her great-grandsons: Ian Hodgkins of Sherman, Texas, Maddox and Miles Newman of Denison, Texas, Wesson Hickman and Witten Hickman of Kingston, Okla., Woodrow Edwards of Kingston, Okla., and Jace James and her great-granddaughter, Isabelle James of Muskogee, Okla.; along with numerous extended family members and a host of friends.
Services to honor Nelda’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Brown’s Funeral Home chapel. Officiants will be John Adams and Jay Perry. Nelda will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in Durant with David Stark, Victor Seeley, Kelly Robinson, Jason Winters, Greg Shenk, and Mike Varner serving as pallbearers.
