DURANT – “We are back.”
Sports City Café owner Nick Mehmeti made that a point of emphasis at the ribbon cutting for the restaurant on Wednesday.
Sports City is rejoining the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce and festivities were held to recognize that.
Mehmeti thanked the Chamber for coming out and the city of Durant as a whole.
“When we came here eight years ago, we started a great restaurant here,” Mehmeti said. “We built a great restaurant, but for the last couple of years it has not been great.
“But thanks for helping us get it back together. We’re going to do what it takes to take care of our customers. And for the ones who left, we want to bring them back.
“Thank you to everybody that has been involved in this to help bring Sports City back to the map.”
Michael Nolen, director of operations, talked about the Summerfest event coming up Saturday, July 22.
“It’s a festival that is tied in with United Way,” Nolen said. “We will kick things off at 9 a.m. There will be bands all day.
“And the event will be very much child friendly. A whole section will be set up with bounce houses, snow cone machines and there will be pet doing from the Pet Rescue and many other activities.
“And all of the profits from the day will go to the United Way.”
Nolen stressed also that the restaurant is going to continue to be involved in the community.
Sports City Café is located at 5067 S. Ninth Avenue in Durant.
