DURANT – Owners and fans of classic cars in the area have a place to go to be with others of like mind.
The Blast From The Past car club meets at Wright’s Drive In the first Thursday of each month. And in July, the meeting took to the road.
The cars did the drag in Durant.
More than 50 cars showed up at Wright’s on Thursday evening and headed north. Lynn Smith said he wanted to do it like it was done in the 60’s.
“We came up Ninth and went down Main and then went up First and then turned around there,” Smith said. “It used to be the old bowling alley and now it’s the shopping center.”
Smith said he had the idea to get the club going again and talked with Courtney Burnett, owner of Wright’s, about having the gathering there. Although the cars won’t drag Main each month, Smith said they plan on doing it again and that this time went great.
“We were extremely fortunate to have that many cars and we also had the tailgate parties up and down Main Street,” Smith said. “There were about 12-15 different places that had parties to watch the convoy. And we gave away $50 for the best party. The drivers chose it and the winner was Southern Beauty School.”
The club is accepting membership and the annual fee is just $15.
