David Lee Jones, longtime member of the Durant community passed from this life and entered the Gates of Heaven on May 8, 2024, at his home in Durant at the age of 77. David was born on June 28, 1946, in Cairo, Ill. to parents, Paul and Mary Miller Jones. David graduated from Springer, Okla., High School in 1964 and then moved to Durant and attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University graduating with his bachelor’s degree.
David married Karen Sue Fite on December 8, 1967, and they began their journey together raising their family. David worked for Collier Furniture in Durant during his working years until his much-earned retirement. He was a devoted and dedicated member of Faith Missionary Baptist in Durant, the Durant Country Club, and the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity at SOSU. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, riding motorcycles, and he loved being outdoors in the sunshine.
David is preceded in death by his wife, Karen Sue Jones and parents, Paul and Mary Jones.
Family members left to continue David’s legacy are his daughter, Kesha Jones Martin and husband Shane of Ardmore, Okla.; son, David Jones and wife Kristen of Durant, Okla.; grandchildren: Haden Lee Coffey and wife Kaitline of Edmond, Okla., Jayce Willard Martin of Oklahoma City, Okla., Rheagan Ballard and husband Keach of Durant, Okla., Ryleigh Jones of Claremore, Okla., and Ryder David Jones of Durant, Okla.; brothers, Mike Jones and wife Donna of Ardmore, Okla. and Chris Jones and wife Piper of Ardmore, Okla.; aunts, Gwen Kelley of Ardmore, Okla. and Dixie Sanders of La Grange, Ky. and numerous extended family and friends.
Funeral services to celebrate David’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Pastor Aaron Heflin will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Ardmore at 1:30 p.m. with Jimmy Patton, Benny Carter, Brent Osborn, Eric Eslick, Jim Tadlock, and Dusty Rhode serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Haden Coffey, Ryder David Jones, Jayce Martin, Shane Martin, Brett Matherly, Don Dillard, and Tom England.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral Service and Crematory.
