Winiford “Windy” Lee Bridges of Cartwright, Okla., passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024, in his home in Cartwright, at the age of 77. He was born to Leon and Flora Lee (Metcalf) Bridges in Durant, Okla., on March 13, 1946.
He met Sherry Bridges, the love of his life, in 1965, and they were married in Cartwright at Grandpa and Grandma Quilling’s house in 1966.
Windy graduated from Calera School. As a younger man, Windy enjoyed playing baseball. Windy worked at a Toy factory, RC Can Company, TI, then opened his own restaurant, Windy’s Catfish, in 1985. Windy had many hobbies, including racehorses and billiards. Windy began his love for horses and horseraces in the early eighties. He was an avid pool player, playing on leagues in Sherman and Denison and even advancing in competitions to Los Vegas. Windy loved riding motorcycles and teaching his son how to ride. He did his best to instill a strong work ethic in his children, demonstrating the importance of caring for his family. Windy never hesitated to lend a helping hand or advice.
Windy was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Flora Lee (Metcalf) Bridges; his only brother, Harlin Bridges and sister, Welma (Bridges) Anthony.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Bridges, of the home; daughter, Regina Beth Bridges of Cartwright, Okla.; son, Windy “Little Windy” Lee Bridges and wife Elizabeth M. Bridges of Cartwright, Okla., and Mitchell Kyle Hartline of Oklahoma; sister, Marylynn (Bridges) Castleman of Tennessee; grandchildren, Devian and wife Danielle Fortenberry, Dillion Fortenberry, Mikala, Konner, Kallista, Trinity, Hayden, and Paytin Bridges, and his great-grandchildren, Alyson, Finely, Dawson Fortenberry, Ariah Hall, and Carmen Cruz, and nieces and nephews and extended family.
Services for Windy will be held at Cunningham Funeral Service in Colbert, Okla., on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 2 p.m. A meal will follow at the 1st United Methodist Church.
