DURANT – A ribbon cutting ceremony has been planned to celebrate a recent improvement at Keithly Park. The ceremony is scheduled for Friday, July 28, at 6 p.m.

As part of the Durant Parks Master Plan, Keithley Park, located at 316 NE Third Ave., received a new larger play structure equipped for children ages 5-12. The structure can accommodate as many as 65 kids at a time.

“This new structure will last 15 years at minimum, so we have plenty of time to make plans for expanding or improving the rest of the park,” Parks and Recreation Director Ryan Brewer said.

Keithley Park was selected as one of the first sites to receive updates due to its popularity.

“It is a high traffic location and it hasn’t seen many improvements in the past,” Brewer said. “We wanted to provide updated equipment for families to enjoy.”

The parks master plan includes additional improvements for Keithley, which the Parks and Recreation Department will work to complete as improvements are made at other parks facilities.

“My goal as the Parks and Recreation Director is to provide a safe place to play for everyone in the entire city by providing up-to-date equipment and future amentities,” Brewer said.

Later this year, Brewer plans to have a new play structure installed at Dixon Durant (Rocket) Park, as well as making improvements to the Durant City Pool at Carl Albert Park.
