Mark was born Wednesday, June 18, 1958 in Dallas, Texas to I. F. (Hoss) Reeves and Billie June (Fisher) Reeves. He departed this life and met his Lord and Savior on his Birthday and Father’s Day on Sunday, June 18, 2023 from his home in Durant, Okla., at the age of 65.
Mark’s education career began at where he attended a half day Kindergarten at First Baptist Church in Farmers Branch, Texas. The family then moved to Denison, Texas where he attended Golden Rule Elementary and was a member of the Golden Voices of Golden Rule. At the end of his fifth grade year the family moved to Platter, Okla., where he continued school at Colbert, Okla. until graduation in 1976. After graduation, Mark attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science Degree. He would then return to SOSU to earn a Master of Education in Social Science while teaching Government at SOSU and finally a Master of Education in School Administration.
Mark began his teaching career in Healdton, Okla., in 1980. After teaching there for three years, he continued his career at Glad Tidings Private School in Sherman one year, SOSU two years, Hugo Middle School three years then Durant Middle School from 1992-2018. He worked for UPS out of Mesquite, Texas, the year between teaching at SOSU and Hugo.
Mark married Lisa Taylor on July 29, 1989 in Caddo, Okla., and were blessed with almost 34 years of marriage. Mark and Lisa were both educators who loved their students. Mark taught from 1992 to 2018 in the Durant Independent School District and was nominated and accepted into the Who’s Who Among American Teachers. Mark was proud being a teacher and always looked forward to the Geography Bee each year at DMS.
Mark was also very interested in history. He enjoyed historical sites, walking through old cemeteries, and genealogical research. He loved watching sports, especially OU Sooners, Dallas Cowboys, and Texas Rangers. He was a big fan of the old Western shows and movies on television from Bonanza to Gunsmoke, anything John Wayne and a collector of memorabilia. Mark’s passion though was spending time with his family and having cookouts because he loved to cook! Mark was a member of the NRA and he and Lisa are members of Victory Life Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hoss and Billie Reeves; his maternal and paternal grandparents, Ira and Eula Reeves, Bill and Essie Fisher; his father-in-law, Junior Taylor; aunt and uncle, Jimmie and C.R. (Sonny) Reeves; and cousin, Ben Reeves.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Lisa of Durant, Okla.; sons, Taylor Reeves and his wife, Callie of Frisco, Texas, and Seth Reeves and his wife, Sandi of Sherman, Texas; daughter, Emma Reeves of Durant, Okla.; brother, Reedy Reeves and his wife, Kris of Pottsboro, Texas; mother-in-law, Elaine Taylor of Caddo, Okla.; brother-in-law, Ronnie Taylor of Caddo, Okla.; nieces, Holli Taylor of Caddo, Okla., Carr Taylor of Dallas, Texas, Melisa and husband Kevin Rodden of Checotah, Okla., and nephew, Zach Reeves of Dallas, Texas.
Funeral services for Mark Reeves will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Victory Life Church with Pastors Randy Mayfield and Zack Backues as officiants. Interment services will follow at Garden of Memory Cemetery in Colbert with Taylor Reeves, Callie Reeves, Seth Reeves, Sandi Reeves, Emma Reeves, Holli Taylor, Carr Taylor, and Zach Reeves serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Brown’s Funeral Home.
