Paul Holmes, 88, entered this life on Wednesday, January 30, 1935 in Broken Arrow, Okla., to LeRoy Holmes and Opal (Bean) Holmes, and departed this world into his Heavenly home on Friday, May 19, 2023 in Plano, Texas.
Paul grew up and graduated high school in Coweta. He was a self-employed drywall contractor in construction most of his life working in many towns. He was also a Pentecostal pastor more than 35 years in leading many people to Jesus Christ. Paul married Pamela Pruitt on September 22nd, 1981. They were married almost thirty years until her death on March 11, 2011.
Paul was a man who never met a stranger. He was very outgoing and everyone who knew him would say that he loved talking. Paul enjoyed talking and storytelling with family, friends, and strangers. He loved being outdoors and going hunting and fishing, and talking. His passion was talking about the Lord and being with his family.
Paul was also preceded in death by his parents; an oldest son, Gary Holmes; daughter-in-law, Janna Holmes; twin sister, Pauline Holmes; brothers Jack, Jerry, Frank, and Alan; and sons-in-law, David Donahue and Dan Bailey.
He is survived by his brother, LeRoy Holmes of Tulsa, Okla.; children, Curtis Russell and his wife, Sarah of Durant, Okla., Jody Russell and his wife, Rachel of Turner, Okla., Edwina Rice and her husband, Kenny of Okay, Okla., Terry Simmons and her husband, John of Cleveland, Okla., Randy Holmes and his wife, Karen of Coweta, Okla., Ricky Holmes and his wife, Sandy of Coweta, Okla., Renea Merriman and her husband, Denny of Inola, Okla., Charles Holmes and his wife, Laura of Coweta, Okla., and Carl Holmes and his wife, Angelyn of Bartlesville, Okla.; 30 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Paul Holmes were held on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Brown’s Funeral Home chapel in Durant with Pastor Ronny Ford officiating. Paul was laid to rest at Mead Cemetery with Kirsten Russell, Justin Holmes, Jason Holmes, Cody Holmes, Colton Russell, and Zane Walsh, serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers: LeRoy Holmes and Alan Powell.
