Ramah Lee Terry of Durant passed from this life into Paradise while surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. She was 95 years old.
Ramah was born on February 28, 1928 in Shawnee, Okla., to Arthur and Jewel (McMillan) Jackson. The firstborn in a family of five children, Ramah made her mark as the most tidy of the bunch. She loved country music, Elvis, and enjoyed throwing parties for her friends. She graduated from Harrah High School where she was known for being friendly and sociable, and where she played an assortment of sports and sang in the school choir. On June 22, 1947, Ramah married the love of her life, Leonard L. Terry, in Harrah, Oklahoma. They moved to Durant in 1964.
Ramah was a pastor’s wife, a devoted mother, and a faithful friend. For many years, Ramah loved and cared for children while running a daycare out of her home – a memory she looked back upon fondly. Ramah loved Jesus and her love for Jesus overflowed into every area of her life. Whether it was through encouraging others at church, making neighbors bread, writing cards to almost anyone she knew, or making “love quilts” for others with her SEW SOW GIRLS at Fairview Baptist Church, Ramah’s love for people shined brightly. She enjoyed cooking, singing, exercising, and talking to friends and family members on the phone.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Darla Atchley and husband Larry of Prosper, Texas, and son Leonard Terry and wife Kathy of Durant, Okla.; her two sisters, Mary Lou Miley of Yukon, Okla., and Darlene Wilkins and husband Scott of Edmond, Okla.; grandchildren: Natalie Martin and husband Ryan of Richardson, Texas, Lindsey Weatherl and husband Caleb of Midland, Texas, Warren Wright and wife Sarah of Houston, Texas, Josh Wright and wife Danielle of Wilson, Okla., and Tonia Carter and husband Rod of Broken Bow, Okla.; her great-grandchildren: Jackson Martin, Macy Martin, Kate Martin, Cooper Martin, Dillon Weatherl, Abigail Weatherl, Jack Weatherl, Jedidiah Wright, Raddix Wright, Elizabeth Wright, Aiden Shirley, Isabella Briscoe, Preston Doughty and wife Savannah; and great-great-grandchildren: Lilith Norman, and Leonidas and Zoey Doughty.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Jewel Jackson; husband, Reverend Leonard L. Terry; daughter, Lynna Wright; and brothers, Arthur Jackson, Jr., and Hollis Jackson.
