CADDO – On Tuesday, April 19, directors of the Caddo Community and Cemetery Preservation, Inc. (CCCP) initiated a cleanup of debris on the roadside of Highway 22 near the “Welcome to Caddo” sign. In 2 1/2 hours of work, the crew of eight collected a pickup load of trash. Citizens who use the footpath from Superette to Dairy Queen will surely appreciate a cleaner walkway and the view from the road is much better already. There is still much to do in that area. The crew felt satisfaction that they had made a good start toward a more favorable appearance at the main entrance to the town and volunteers are making plans to return in the near future.
CCCP was organized in 2019 to expand and enhance the work of the Civic and Cemetery Club of Caddo, Okla. The cemetery is owned by the club, a corporation comprised of women volunteers who oversee the maintenance of Gethsemane Cemetery. The club has owned and operated the cemetery since 1903 and also maintains an interest in promoting civic projects for the Caddo community. The objectives of the CCCP include supporting community preservation in a larger way, as well as to contribute to the preservation and improvements of Gethsemane Cemetery. Recognized but the IRS as a 501c3 corporation, CCCP receives donations from other charitable entities and individuals who wish to have their donation designated as tax deductible.
Assisting CCCP volunteers on Tuesday were Southeastern students from the Church of Christ Bible Center. The students are raising money for a mission project and would welcome other opportunities to earn money to teach their goal. The corporation is seeking volunteers for continuation of the cleanup at all points of entry to Caddo. Anyone interested in joining the next cleanup day or donation to CCCP, please email civcem.caddo@yahoo.com or text (580) 367-0358.
