Shirley M. Smith of Durant, Okla., passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family at the age of 86. Shirley was born on February 24, 1935, in San Benito, Texas, to Pleasant D. and Helen Stuntebeck Kennamer, Jr.
Shirley graduated from San Benito High School and later married Myrl Smith on February 16, 1957, in Durant. She graduated from SOSU in Durant with a bachelor’s degree and Texas A&M in Commerce, Texas, with her master’s degree. She was a former teacher and retired as an accountant. She was of the Church of Christ faith, and she enjoyed reading, fishing, craft projects, dancing, music, and socializing.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Pleasant D. Kennamer and wife Wilma; mother, Helen Jackson and husband Ralph (Jack); brother, Pete Kennamer; granddaughter, Callie Smith; grandson, Ben Smith and great-grandson, Macyn Isenberg.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 64-plus years, Myrl Smith of the home; children: Paul David Smith and wife Carol of Durant, Okla., Debra Boyer and husband Ron of Durant, Okla., Walter Smith and wife Lori of Durant, Okla. and Shelley Michael and husband Derrick of Mountain Park, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Laferney of Rockport, Texas and numerous extended family and friends.
Funeral services to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Brent Smith will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
