Dwight “Ike” DeLaine McKay, a lifelong resident of Caddo, Okla. went to his heavenly home on Sept. 24, 2021. Ike was born on May 29, 1958 in Durant, Okla. to A.C. McKay and Mary “Marketa” Nation.
Ike married Georgena McKay in Durant, Okla. in 1979, then they were blessed with a son, Dustin.
Ike recently retired from the Oklahoma State Fish Hatchery where he worked for 34-plus years, many of those as Assistant Manager. He enjoyed all his work family and took pride in his responsibility on the Florida Bass projects at the hatchery, among many other contributions he made while teaching “the old school” way and taking the hatchery gang under his wing when need be.
He was very passionate about serving the Caddo community, which he did very well. He is a retried member of the Caddo Volunteer Fire Department where he served 20 years. He also served for many years on the Caddo School Board. He was active in the Quarterback Club and would volunteer at the football games keeping the scoreboard/ clock for years. He was ready to help in any way he could.
He enjoyed watching his son, Dustin playing sports for Caddo Bruins, as well as driving him to play on various travel baseball teams as well as continuing to support his years as American Legion baseball player as well as Murray State and SOSU. When Dustin started coaching, Ike and Georgena also enjoyed following Caney Cougars as well as Caddo Bruins sports teams very much. He and Georgena were blessed with two grandchildren, Kadey Lee and Jake McKay who are both very active in Caddo sports.
Ike was an avid deer hunter and he enjoyed hunting with his family and friends. He was devoted to family and lived his life simply with honesty and passion. He was dearly loved by his family, friends and coworkers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A.C. McKay and Mary (Marketa) Nation; grandparents, Lee and Mary Nation, Aaron and Stella McKay and an infant sister Treva McKay.
He is survived by his wife, Georgena Gibson McKay of 42 years; son, Dustin DeLaine McKay and wife Lacey (Culbreath) McKay; grandchildren, Kadey Lee McKay and Jake DeLaine McKay of Caddo, Okla.; sister, Tabitha Armstrong of Caddo, Okla.; brother, Alan Chad McKay of Caddo, Okla.; uncle, Utah Nation of Caddo, Okla. as well as other extended family and a host of friends. He also leaves behind a lifelong commitment of service to the community of Caddo and a legacy of a life well lived.
A family hour will be held from 6-7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021 at Gordon Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 27, 2021 at the Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo, Okla. with the Bro. Clint Culbreath officiating. Mark Gibson, Terry Wright, Dale Wingfield, Kenneth Pate, Curtis Daniel, Reggie Green, Larry Behrens, Bob Wichers and the Durant State Fish Hatchery work family will be honorary pallbearers.
