Jimmy Dale Burnett, Sr., left this world and all his worries behind to join loved ones in Heaven on June 21, 2021. Jimmy entered this life on Aug. 12, 1950, one of seven boys born to Bill and Jean McDaniel.
To the rest of the world, Jim was an ornery, fearless, hardworking, tireless man. To his close family, he was plain old dad, grandpa, husband, and role model. Jim joined the United States Navy when he was seventeen before being honorably discharged. He worked for many years as Security for multiple local taverns/bars in Durant and was known for not taking bull from the rowdy clientele. While he was not perfect and flowery words do not do him justice; he was a great man who never knew a stranger. He led a hard life with many trials, but Jim never gave up and kept pushing forward.
Jim loved to play horseshoes, go fishing, play dominoes, watch TV and concoct questionable meals for those with a less discerning palate. While he had many hobbies and interests, his favorite pastime was raising his grandson Claye and helping him become the man he is today. While his close family mourns his passing and wish he could have stayed a little longer; we are also rejoicing for his new life. Daddy, I’m afraid, won’t you stay a little while, I never thought I’d see the day I had to say goodbye, Daddy, please don’t go I can’t do this on my own, there’s no way that I can walk this road alone, Daddy grabbed my hand and said, even though I’m leaving, I ain’t going nowhere.
The family has elected to not have a service and would rather celebrate his life together with just those who were closest to him in life. In lieu of flowers the family ask for you to hold on tight to those you love, let them know you care and give them attention while they are still here. We love you, Dad.
Jim was preceded in death by both parents and three brothers.
He is survived by those who knew and loved him best, wife Josie Countryman of Durant, Okla.; son, Jimmy Burnett, Jr., of Tennessee; daughter, Christie Draper and husband Jesse of Durant, Okla.; grandsons: Logan and Landon Burnett of Tennessee, Irlan Polson of Calera, Okla., Dalton and Alexa Draper of Mead, Okla., and Claye Crofford and wife Leslie of Durant, Okla.
