Since 2017, WoodmenLife has awarded scholarships worth $1.78 million to high school graduates for continuing educational opportunities through the WoodmenLife Focus Forward Scholarship. Up to $1 million worth of scholarships are awarded annually.
Calera senior Haylee Hestily was recognized locally for her work and activity through her high school years and received one of these scholarships.
Haylee is the daughter of Ryan and Tara Hestily. She is a graduate of Calera High School who plans to go to Southeastern Oklahoma State University for two years and then to go to the University of Oklahoma to continue her education in dental hygiene.
Haylee competed in four years of fast pitch softball, four years of slow pitch softball, was in FCCLA for two years, yearbook for two years (co-editor for one year), Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Oklahoma Honor Society and National Honor Society.
She has also helped work a firework stand at First Baptist Church in Calera and helped with Durant Main Street.
Perfect grades and test scores aren’t required for this scholarship, nor is financial need a consideration for the awarding of scholarships. To be considered, members must:
• Make a difference in their community through volunteerism
• Want to make their community a better place to live
• Want to pursue a career as a leader in their community
• Demonstrate their academic performance by providing their transcripts and GPA
