Earnest Hamby passed away peacefully at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas, on the evening of Jan. 22, 2021. He was born to Jack and Rose Hamby of Yuba, Okla., on Oct. 23, 1943.
He was a Husband, Brother, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, and wonderful friend to many others. He graduated from Yuba High School in 1961 in Yuba, Okla. Shortly after graduation, he met Glenda Mae Ervin Hamby, the love of his life, and the two married on Oct. 26, 1963. They then had two children: daughter, Kim Hamby Stephens, and son, Ricky Hamby. When he was not selling cars, and most everyone around here has bought at least one car from him, he spent time on his farm. The farm was his true passion. He raised many cattle and grew many crops in his 78 years.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Mae Ervin Hamby of Yuba, Okla.; daughter, Kim Hamby Stephens and her husband Vernon of Yuba, Okla.; son, Ricky Hamby of Yuba, Okla.; granddaughters: Abby Rattan and husband Tyler of Bonham, Texas, Kaytlyn Ashlock (Austin) of Ravenna, Texas, and three great-grandchildren, Tucker Rattan (his bike riding and pillow fighting buddy), Maverick Rattan, and Andi Kayt Ashlock. Sister Doris Durham and her husband Perry of Bonham, Texas.
He was preceded in death by brothers Glen (Wink) Hamby, Billy Joe Hamby, Norman (Jip) Hamby; three sisters, Rosanne Johnson, Juanita Miller, and Louise Murphey.
Serving as pallbearers are: Lee Hamby, Jeff Hamby, Kenny Sewell, Stanley Cobbs, Mark Rattan, and Raymond Hobbs.
Graveside services will be held at Yarnaby Cemetery on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021 at 2 p.m. Visitation time for the public to come to pay their respects will be on Monday, Jan. 25 from noon to 8 p.m.
During this time the family asks that social distancing and facial coverings be worn for the respect and safety of all who attend. Services are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service in Durant.
