William “Bill” Mullen, 60, of Durant, Okla. passed away on Nov. 14, 2020 Denison, Texas Bill was born on June 13, 1960 to James and Faye (Briggs) Mullen in Miami, Fla. He married Angela (Morris) on March 6, 1985 in Sherman, Texas.
Bill was a faithful Christian, husband, father, Poppy, and uncle always growing more in love for his family that was surpassed only by his love of Christ. He grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas. His work ethic was developed even at a young age as he carried the responsibility of a paper route and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America. Later he attended Nimitz High School and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He showed himself to be a man of selfless service by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Bill was proud of his honorable service to his country where his excellence was evidenced by a meritorious promotion while on recruiting duty.
He met his wife of 35 years while on recruiting duty in Sherman, Texas. They made their home in Durant, Okla. As a college student, he also taught classes at Kiamichi Technology Center and later began his career as a computer programmer. After many years working in the corporate environment, God allowed him to begin his own business venture where he created custom software for many local businesses. One of the greatest blessings in this time was the freedom he had to be available to his family and church family for any needs that would arise. He worked tirelessly but was always available to meet the needs of others if he could.
Bill was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Durant where he served in multiple roles. He led a life modeled after Christ through his servant leadership of loving God and loving people. He served in the media and IT departments and was most passionate about the development of the children’s bus ministry, the churches community outreach, and the men’s discipleship ministry.
His service to the community and dedication to loving people continued through his volunteerism as a Chaplain at the Great Physicians medical mission of Durant, Okla. He considered himself blessed and highly favored because of the opportunity he had to spend his life in service to the Lord. His dependency on Christ and strength ministered to those in the community.
Mr. Mullen was preceded in death by parents, James and Faye Mullen and grandchild, Kalum Lee.
Mr. Mullen is survived by wife, Angela Mullen of Durant, Okla.; daughters, Amanda and husband Shane Phillips of Holdenville, Okla., Casie and husband Travis Smith of Booneville, Iowa, Starla and husband Zach Lee of Edmond, Okla.; son, Nick Mullen of Post Falls, Idaho; grandchildren: Abigail and Alexandria Phillips, Titus, Karis, Quinn, and Caitee Lee; sisters: Billie Kinsey of Arlington, Texas, Bobbie Main of Midlothian, Texas, Sharon and husband James Halteman of Venus, Texas, Jennifer Mullen of Grand Prairie, Texas; brother, Larry David and wife Lynn Briggs of Houston, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family Hour will be held on Monday, Nov. 16 from 6-7 p.m. at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Okla.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Darel Bunch and Tim Bowen officiating. Internment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Bowen, Jeremy Shannon, Jared Kellum, Michael Wilson, Steve Brittingham, Sam Payne, Eric Rowland and Jeremy Rowland . Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Adams, Titus Lee, Larry Whittington, Samuel Harman, Donnie Portman and Don Mercer.
