Robert “Bob” Green, a resident of Bennington, Okla., and veteran of the United States Army, passed into his rest on Oct. 30, 2020 at the age of 84.
Bob was born in Archer City, Texas to Wilburn Algenon Green and Roberta (Hastings) Green. He was raised in small towns in Oklahoma and went to college at Southeastern Oklahoma State College in Durant, Okla., where he met Leslie Meadows. The two married on Sept. 1, 1956 and moved to Dallas, Texas where he began working for Collins Radio which eventually merged with Rockwell International. Bob worked for Rockwell as an engineer for 35 years.
Collins Radio moved to Richardson, Texas, where Bob and Leslie began raising a family: daughters Beth and Karen and son Robert, Jr. “Bobby.” Bob was active in his children’s lives through Boy Scouts and Church Youth activities at First Presbyterian Church, Richardson. Bob went on many Boy Scout camping trips and canoe trips down the Buffalo River in Arkansas and sponsored many Church Youth Work Camps. Bob and Leslie traveled to many Elderhostels and took each of their grandchildren on their own special Intergenerational Elderhostel close to their 10th birthday.
He married his beloved Gaylia Cox Seeley in Bennington, Okla., on Dec. 31, 2006. He served his county proudly in the Army. He loved reading, watching old movies, going to auctions, and living the peaceful country life with Gaylia.
Bob was an Elder in both First Presbyterian Church and Old Church, Bennington. He participated in many missions and groups at both churches: teaching Sunday School, counting offerings, locking up the church at night, working in the kitchen, and helping organize many activities. Through all his work and activities, Bob was known as a calm, quiet, and constant presence who could always be found behind the scenes diligently and methodically working without need of fanfare or even acknowledgment.
